Ground Breaking Celebration
Thursday, November 27, 2008                 This was the first of four celebrations held over a three-year period commemorating significant events during the construction of “The Cathedral of the Plains” (1908-1911).
This 100th anniversary celebration was in honor of the November 1908 groundbreaking. The day began with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 9:30 a.m. followed by a DVD presentation of the history and building of the Cathedral of the Plains. The DVD was produced by Victoria High School students in the Office Technology Class under the direction of instructors John Linn and Stuart Moeckel.
Following the Mass and presentation, a traditional Thanksgiving Day Meal was served to approximately 600 people in the Victoria Grade School gymnasium from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All parishioners along with their extended families, friends, neighbors, and surrounding parishes were invited. A free will offering was graciously accepted.
